Student’s in class often class ask what type of plug-ins I use for mixing and sound design.
Inevitably they ask how much they cost and the inevitable response is “That’s so much money!” I know that professional plugs are expensive, but if you’re doing a professional mix or sound design project sometimes you want to use some of these high-end plugs. What most people don’t know is that you don’t have to buy them; you can RENT them online directly from Digidesign at the Digi Plug-in Store
There are plugs from Digidesign, Bomb Factory, Antares, Access, IK Multimedia and whole lot more. It’s a very smart and economic solution when you want that “big record” sound. You can rent by the day, week or month. For example, Access Virus Indigo, which retails for $795 is only $28 for 14-days. A good plan is to buy an “essential” bundle from a developer like Digidesign, Waves, etc and then rent the rest. Remember, if you’re not on a TDM system and you’re using powerful plug-ins, don’t forget to use playlist and audiosuite to save your computers CPU. You can also deactivate your real time plug-ins with “command + control click.” Keep on creating!
