So you find yourself sitting there editing and you’re going back and forth between a wide view and a tight view.
Several things come into play when you’re trying to get in close to see precisely what you’re doing, or trying to get out to see your whole session. We offer a quick list of things you can use to make this navigation quicker and easier. Zoom In/Out You can always use the zoom controls in the top of the edit window, but in command focus mode (a…z), the letters R and T make it a lot faster.
Track Height A click of the amplitude scale will give you the options for whatever track height you’d like to use. You could also click between the tracks and have more flexible control of the track height. Now try holding down the control key (start for windows) and hit the up and down arrows on your keyboard. You’ll find that whatever track you have your edit cursor will change height before your eyes! *try holding down the option (alt) key and you’ll see ALL of your tracks changing height AND maintaining their relative size to one another.
Zoom Toggle This is a tricky feature to get use to, but it can be great once you get it down. Pressing the button under the zoom tool or pressing the “E” key while in edit command focus mode enables it. When enabled, whatever you select will automatically expand to fill the screen at whatever zoom setting you set. The trick is turning it on to zoom in on something quickly, then turning it off again to return to a normal view.
Memory Locations When you create a memory location, you can tell it to remember the current zoom and/or track height settings. When you recall that memory location, the tracks will return to the size when the memory location was created. This may be more cumbersome than you’d like to have in the midst of editing, but over the course of a project this can save you a lot of time. Happy Zooming!
