Here is some information that may save you from that dreadful-stabbing-headache you usually get during Software/System updates. You know what I am talking about... those shiney, brand "NEW" upgraded version's of software or your operating system — that you know you just want need. It makes sense to upgrade — but shortly after upgrading — you may experience some problems that gives you that headache. My advice is to consider "waiting" until the update to the upgrade is released. Most software companies extensively tests new 'versions' prior to release, then they discover problems that were not found/anticipated once it goes public (i.e. other peripherals, operating system compatibility issues, etc.) If you simply wait about 5 days to a week after the first release (sometimes longer) and let the software companies fix the bugs...then download the updated version.
EXAMPLE: As a Pro Tools user Digidesign`s website is a great resource. On Digidesign’s site you can find software updates which are called ‘CS updates.’ These are critical to your system’s performance. If you were not aware of this, please visit Digidesign CS Updates and ensure you are using the latest release. Another thing to consider is your computer’s operating system. If you own a Mac, then you should be aware of the “software update” command found in the “Apple menu” NOTE: if you are a Pro Tools user DO NOT Upgrade your operating system from this method. It does not give you all the necessary files for optimal Pro Tools performance. Digidesign provides a link to Apples site for the proper download for the Pro Tools user operating system. It’s also a good idea to check the “compatibility” listing for your computer model and version of Pro Tools. Hope this helps. Just want to take out the technical disasters for you so you can continue to be creative.
