Barre Duryea-The Tonight Show
The most important element I learned was how to use Pro Tools in real life situations…to make a professional sounding finished product.
When Barre Duryea got the call to move from New York to LA to help run the technical aspects for The Tonight Show's house band, the Max Weinberg 7, he knew he wanted to upgrade his studio skills with Pro Tools. He wanted to take the best Digidesign training possible and he wanted to complete the curriculum quickly! It didn't take him long to choose ProMedia Training. For 20 years Duryea toured with bands such as, Patti Smith, Fun Lovin.. Criminals, New York Dolls, Lloyd Cole, Robyn Hitchcock, and The Feelies. He’s always loved time in the studio recording new projects and will bring his experience and Digidesign skills with him to his California gig for rehearsal, demos and show pre-record. Congratulations on your new position, Barre! And, be sure to get in some sun and surf for us!
- When did you know you wanted to be in the music industry?
I've been rock 'n roll touring for twenty years. I always enjoyed working in the studio on recording projects and got fascinated with Pro Tools and all that the computer can do to music.
- How did you find and choose to study at ProMedia Training?
I researched a variety of schools and programs. After doing my homework and talking to the staff at ProMedia Training, I knew it was the best for me. One big plus for me was the fact that I could learn the Digidesign curriculum with professionals at a fast pace in a cool environment. I didn’t want to be in school for a year, I wanted a program that would allow me to start working right away.
- What specifically, that you learned at PMT, have you found to be the most helpful in your career?

- Can you describe the process from graduation to starting your career?
I took the course in preparation of starting my job on The Tonight Show. I knew having these skills would make a real difference for my career.
- Did you feel prepared and properly trained?
Absolutely. Without a doubt. The training prepared me for many of the things I know I will encounter in my professional career.
- Can you speak to the quality of the teachers at PMT?
My instructor, Terron Darby, was just as dynamic and as well prepared as you would ever want to ever see. Any idea or theoretical question was met with a clear and confident answer due to his experience as a teacher and being in virtually all studio situation that someone could be in.
- What are you working on now?
Actually, I'm still unpacking from the move to LA from NYC!! But, really I'm starting with the Max Weinberg 7 band at the Tonight Show tomorrow. We have a rehearsal room plus the live studio not to mention about 30 or 40 guitars and 5 drum sets! It’s time to get to work.
