Avid has just released the latest Pro Tools update 2020.9 which includes Ableton Link. Now you can have Pro Tools, Ableton, and any other linked application on your network. Other updates include support for SDII and BW64 files, and new Record Enable behaviors. Check out the videos to see the new features in action.
With the release of Pro Tools 2020.9.1 Avid has introduced several useful enhancements to the Pro Tools environment. The biggest change is the addition of Ableton Link, which allows you to keep devices in time over a local network. This allows you to use Pro Tools and Ableton (or any other Link enabled software) to run together in time, use a common transport, as well as synchronize tempo and meter. The video below shows you how easy it is to activate Ableton Link in you Pro Tools session.

Another great feature is the new preferences for how the Record Enable button functions when toggling between record tracks. With Auto-Cancel Previous Record Enabled Tracks the system will automatically disable record on a track when you enable it on another track. This feature is super handy when you're recording onto multiple tracks and need to toggle which track is actively recording without having to find and disable the previous track. SDII and BW64 Audio File Support
Our favorite addition is the support for Sound Designer II files (SDII). This audio file format was used with Pro Tools long before we had .wav files. Most of the sessions people did in the 90's and early 2000's were using SDII files. A few years ago Avid stopped supporting SDII which meant we could no longer open those old sessions. A lot of engineers, producers, and artists, were pissed! Thankfully, SDII files are supported once again in Pro Tools! Furthermore, Pro Tools also supports the news BW64 file standard which allows for files larger than 4GB, 18-Surround Channels, Stereo Mix Channel, as well as MetaData information.
